Hello!

We are Portlanders raising awareness among the public and politicians about the extinction-level risk we face from the development of superintelligence: AI systems that would be smarter and more capable than humans, and able to act outside our control. Experts warn that such an AI has a real chance of overpowering/outcompeting us, leading to our extinction. Superintelligence poses this risk to all humans, regardless of where it is built or by whom.

Our plan is to meet with our representatives, and have tabling events and community workshops for people to learn about the dangers of superintelligence and what they can do to help prevent its development. Our goal is to make people aware of the risks, help them raise their voices, and build support and methods for preventing this threat from becoming a reality.

You don’t need any knowledge of AI or politics to join us, only the drive to do what is right. If you’re concerned about AI issues, especially loss of human control, this is the place for you. Some of you might feel compelled to meet with legislators, and others might just want to write their lawmakers once. Both of these help, and we encourage you to join regardless of how much you feel you can contribute.
