About this group

We are Wisconsin residents working to keep humanity in control of advanced AI.

In 2023, hundreds of AI scientists and the heads of the top AI companies signed a public statement saying that reducing the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority, alongside pandemics and nuclear war. Those same companies are now racing to build superintelligence, meaning AI that outperforms all humans combined at every task. No U.S. law stands in their way.

We support ControlAI's campaign to prohibit the development of superintelligence, and we make sure Wisconsin's lawmakers hear about it from their own constituents.

What we do

  • Meet with Wisconsin's members of Congress and state legislators

  • Speak on local radio and podcasts, at community events, and to civic groups

  • Table and hand out flyers at fairs and community events.

  • Write letters to the editor and op-eds for Wisconsin papers

  • Bring Wisconsin voices into ControlAI's national campaigns

Who should join
Anyone in Wisconsin who is worried about where AI is headed. You don't need a tech background or political experience. Some members meet with legislators. Others write one letter a year. Both make a difference.

We are nonpartisan and work with lawmakers of every party.

Frequently asked questions

Can anyone from anywhere in Wisconsin join?

Yes! We welcome all Wisconsin residents and most of our work can be done from home.

How much time does it take?

As much or as little as you have. Writing one letter or making one call to your legislator's office is a real contribution. More active members meet with lawmakers or help staff tabling events a few times a year.

Does it cost anything?

No. Membership is free, and ControlAI provides the materials and training we use.

When and where do you meet?

We hold an online meeting on the second and 4th Wednesday of each month at 6pm CT. We also meet in person around the state for events and tabling. We can add you to our event calendar.

Do I have to talk to lawmakers?

No. Some members prefer writing, tabling, or spreading the word to friends and family. If you do want to meet with a legislator, we'll prepare you and go with you.

Are you against AI?

No. Many of us use AI tools every day. We oppose one thing: building superintelligence, meaning AI systems that outperform humans across the board and that no one knows how to control.

Isn't this science fiction?

The companies building these systems say on the record that superintelligence is their goal. Many of their own leaders have also signed statements warning that AI could cause human extinction. We take them at their word.

Is this a partisan group?

No. We work with Republicans, Democrats, and independents. Keeping humans in control of AI shouldn't be a left or right issue.

What is ControlAI?

ControlAI is an organization campaigning to prevent the development of superintelligence. It works in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Germany, and its team has briefed more than 400 lawmakers across those four countries. It also provides the campaign tools, briefings and training that local groups like ours use. We add the voice that matters most to an elected official: constituents from their own district.

Working to keep humanity in control.
