What is the Direct Institutional Plan?
The Direct Institutional Plan is ControlAI’s strategy for informing the people who shape policy about superintelligence and how to prevent its development. This course teaches the practical work of contacting and briefing politicians and their staff.
Who runs the training?
Torchbearer Community runs the programme. Its trainers are experienced advocates who have briefed politicians across multiple countries.
What happens in a live practice session?
You and another trainee practise with a trainer. You take turns giving a briefing and playing the politician, with pointers and feedback throughout. Complete the Background and How to brief politicians modules, including the example briefing and self-check quizzes, before your first session.
Can I take part from outside the UK?
Yes. The programme is open to people in any country. Live sessions take place online by default, and the community includes advocates working in different countries.
Will I have support for my first real meeting?
Once you have secured a meeting, you can arrange support with a trainer. For an online meeting, a trainer can join you; for an in-person meeting, they can help you prepare and debrief afterwards. You can also get feedback on outreach emails before sending them.
Does signing up enrol me in the course?
No. This form records your interest so you can receive emails about the training. It does not create a course account or book a live session. When you take part, live training is coordinated through the Torchbearer Community Discord.
