Does contacting my lawmaker make a difference?
Your message tells your lawmaker that someone in their constituency wants superintelligence prohibited. It asks them to take a position and act, and gives you a basis for following up. One message does not decide policy, but it makes your support visible to the people elected to represent you.
What am I asking my lawmaker to do?
Support an international prohibition on the development of superintelligence, with effective monitoring and enforcement. Leading AI experts warn that its development poses a risk of human extinction.
Can I change the message before it is sent?
Yes. You can review and edit the draft, and sign it in your name. Finding your lawmakers and preparing a draft do not send anything. You choose when to send it.
Why do you need my address and contact details?
Your location identifies the lawmakers for your area, and your name and address identify you as a constituent. US offices also require a title, first and last name, email and phone for their contact forms. We ask for these when you sign. We also collect your email so ControlAI can stay in touch.
Who sends the message?
In the United States, ControlAI submits your approved message through the contact forms of your lawmakers. In the United Kingdom, Canada and Germany, we prepare an email and open it in your email app. You press send there. Elsewhere, you can edit and copy a template to send to your lawmaker.
